Brought up on a farm in Provence because her father, French singer and poet Guy BÈart didn't want her to be affected by the glamour world of Paris showbusiness, Emmanuelle BÈart nevertheless got the acting urge in early adolescence. At age 15, after a couple of bit parts, she came to Montreal as an au pair to learn English. Back in France, after acting lessons and few small roles in television, she made her big-screen breakthrough in the title role of Claude Berri's Pagnol adaptation, MANON OF THE SPRING (1986). A year later she made her Hollywood debut in Tom McLoughlin's DATE WITH AN ANGEL. She has since played for some of the premier directors on both sides of the Atlantic: Rivette (LA BELLE NOISEUSE, 1991), Sautet (NELLY AND MR. ARNAUD (1995), Chabrol (L'ENFER,1994), De Palma (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, 1996) and Ruiz (TIME REGAINED, 1999). She stars in Catherine Corsini's REPLAY, showing at this year's Festival.<br />
