The WTO ruled Monday , January 28th, 2002, that Canada broke global trading rules by providing cut-rate loans to finance regional jet sales by Montreal-based Bombardier. <br />
Ottawa has 30 days to decide whether to appeal the ruling in what has become a five-year-long trade war between Canada and Brazil over jet sales. <br />
The WTO condemned several deals, the largest involving $1.7 billion in financing by Ottawa to support a Bombardier sale of 75 jets to Air Wisconsin. <br />
