Bell Canada Enterprises (BCE) has signed a letter of intent to join other industry leaders in the Liberty Alliance Project, launched today to create an open standard for single sign-on for network identity. The open system will enable Internet users to carry a single, secure sign-on identity across all devices and all interactions on the Internet. "As a charter member of the Alliance, BCE will help pioneer the creation of an open system that will increase accessibility and ensure the security of personal information for consumers on any device connected to the Internet," said Michael Sabia, President of Bell Canada Enterprises. "Customers and merchants are grappling with the complexity of multiple user signatures and the lack of universal open standards," said Mr. Sabia. "As more people are doing more things using more kinds of Internet devices, such as mobile phones, hand-held devices, computers, and televisions, consumers and businesses alike are seeking simpler and more secure ways to interact with the Internet. The Liberty Alliance Project is a significant and important step in this direction." BCE will become the only Canadian charter member of the Alliance and will work along side more than two dozen other global industry leaders. The Alliance will develop a global standard for accessing communications systems from any device that connects to the Internet through a single sign-on solution. This system is intended to provide consumers with a convenient way of identifying themselves, while allowing them to maintain control of their personal information. The Alliance will develop the system in an open environment to promote development and healthy competition. Over the next 60 days BCE will work with t Photo by Pierre Roussel / Getty Images (ON SPEC) NOTE :35mm neg scan , saved as Adobe RG 1998 color space.
