Electrical fire destroys VIA sleeper car. Firefighters battle a stubborn blaze in a VIA Rail sleeper car yesterday in a Canadian National Railway marshalling yard of New Toronto St. in Etobicoke. A short-circuit in the car's battery system was blamed for the blaze; which broke out around 2.30 p.m. Damage totalled about $1 million; according to police officers. Sections of the car's roof had to be cut away with a power saw.
